The maintenance of refrigeration systems

fridec SOLUTIONS has carried out a new refrigeration project using Co2. This time, its an installation for the
Alcampo, Supermarket. It has been designed with two Co2 cycle transcritical booster units in two MT and LT temperatures on a cascade system.
The installation has a parallel compressor and is set up with a heat recovery exchange in both plants. Additionally, they contain all the Danfoss electronic controls for managing the refrigeration facility and TV management for remote control.
The air conditioning at the supermarket is installed with a cooler from which the water is sent to two air conditioning units. Below, we explain why having air conditioning through a cooler is recommended.
Why do we opt for having air conditioning through a cooler?
As we mentioned above, both of these refrigeration units come prepared with exchanges to recover the residual heat of the motors. This is because, in this way, it was considered that the installation as a whole, including the air conditioning, should be designed to be as efficient as possible.
Using a hydraulic circuit and a set of valves, we send the indirectly recovered hot water to the cooler in winter. In this way, it is managed so that the cooling compressors are working for less time, with the energy saving that this implies.
With the recovery from the main cooling units, we heat the DHW, that is, the Domestic Hot Water during the whole year.
Mainly, the principal idea for carrying this out with two units is so that if there is a breakdown, the whole supermarket is not left without refrigeration. This is because the two central units share half of the cooling and freezer services. It is also done so that the gas load is split, although this is not a problem in itself, as it is a natural coolant, but it is more complex when looking for leaks from a single installation.
Full advantage is taken of the Entalpico heat recovery set up in the supermarket and the air extraction outlet from the heat recovery. Otherwise, this air would escape into the street and be wasted. Therefore, in this way, it goes through the machine room, which is ventilated by the excess pressure without having to put another turbine in the machine room, this amounts to a small energy saving throughout the whole useful life of the installation.
During the first study carried out, the assessment made showed no price rise in the refrigeration system by having two main units instead of one. Due to the advantages that were shown, and as it did not entail an excess cost for the company, we chose this model.
